Finally, Susie Essman, that mass of curly hair and profanities, strolled on stage and rallied the crowd around menopause and liposuction (People cheer for the strangest things.) Susie savagely harassed members of the audience before she got tired of the malfunctioning mic and opened the floor up for Q & A. Dispelling rumors left and right, she told the audience that:
NO, Larry David isn’t as big of an asshole as he is on TV
NO, Seinfeld will never have a real reunion (“What are they, the Brady Bunch?”)
YES, Curb Your Enthusiasm is going to do another season,
YES, the show really is mostly improvised (with a detailed outline provided for each scene.)
It was an interesting and informative night and benefited a great cause (providing opportunities for education in this world is ever-important and the Foundation has so far put 641 students on the path towards higher education.) The lack of seating for people not on the High-roller list was a little annoying and the whole thing was a bit cramped but with wine glass and Hors d’œuvre in hand, I stuck it out. For charity’s sake.
